POSH is a social event management and discovery platform founded in 2019 by Avante Price and Eli Taylor-Lemire while they were students at NYU. Initially launched as a project to help college peers socialize, the founders pivoted from hosting events to building a software platform in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic halted in-person gatherings.

Price, a DJ, and Taylor-Lemire, a photographer and videographer, dropped out of NYU in 2020 to focus on building POSH full-time. The platform began as a SaaS toolkit for event organizers — offering white-labeled event pages, ticketing and RSVP management, SMS and email marketing tools, instant payout processing, dispute resolution, community management features, and a “Kickback” system that turns attendees into paid promoters.

In October 2023, POSH expanded into a consumer-facing mobile app featuring a TikTok-like vertical feed for personalized event discovery. The app emphasizes intimate social events, typically with hundreds of attendees, enabling users to discover experiences their friends or like-minded people are attending.

This focus on shared interests and social circles supports POSH’s mission to combat loneliness by encouraging meaningful offline interactions. The company charges no fees to event organizers; instead, it monetizes through a 10% + $0.99 fee per ticket charged to attendees.

POSH’s strategy has driven rapid growth. As of mid-2024, the platform had over 2 million registered users and had facilitated more than $95 million in ticket sales across over 50,000 events. The company is often described as the “TikTok for events” and “the only social media app that gets you off your phone,” positioning it uniquely at the intersection of social networking and real-world experiences.
